At Vision Design Build Remodel we are always looking for the right people to add to our toolbox of knowledge. While interviewing for our new project manager, Robbie Griffin, he mentioned that another co-worker would make a great asset. We would like to introduce our new carpenter, Eric Mitchell. Eric was originally from California and moved to North Carolina as a teenager.
In his youth in North Carolina Eric was raised on a tobacco farm. He learned that hard work was an everyday aspect. He helped his family maintain and repair farm buildings/sheds. He started taking construction classes in high school to further his knowledge of the trade. He was active in 4-H club and even took mission trips with his church to repair homes. He loved to see the smile on people’s faces after a completed job—a notable trait that is still with him today. He also attended an electrical engineering program at a local college.
In his career working in the housing industry Eric has gained lots of experience in different aspects. He worked for our project manager, Robbie, with Griffin Brothers Construction, a framing contractor that specialized in new home construction, but also completed lots of remodeling projects. He has worked with some of our area’s general contractors to help complete their projects. He worked for a company that repairs construction tools and equipment and delivered fasteners to job sites. This allows him to help maintain the inventory of tools that Vision Design owns. It also gave him the opportunity to meet many of the area’s local tradesman and make great contacts. He brings great skills to the Vision Design Build Remodel team. He mentioned a job that was a historic renovation that was very challenging. One aspect of the scope of work required him to create custom moldings to match the originals which have not been made in over 90 years! He was able to match them perfectly for the client.
Working with Vision Design Build Remodel on the Carpentry Team
Eric has worked with Vision Design for under a year now, but he agrees that he feels part of the team since day one. As a member of the Carpentry Team with Vision Design, his duties include tool management, installation of products including cabinets, moldings, flooring, and more. He wants to see the clients smile! It shows gratification in our job when we know everyone is happy. Eric states, “I like to turn mud into a castle”, which shows his passion for the beauty of demolition to renovation.
Eric says that he was excited to find a company that also cared about his family. He has more flexibility during holidays than before. He decided to come to work with Vision after feeling under appreciated at his previous company. He said, “I like being part of team and know what’s going on.” He loves the forward thinking ideas that Vision has put in place to stay on the front edge of the industry. Vision encourages opportunity and growth for our employees. We love having Eric as part of the “A-team”.
Outside of work, 44 year old Eric unwinds after work with his daughter while she is doing her homework and practicing her clarinet. He has been married for 16 ½ years. The whole family enjoys summertime camping and fishing. Eric tries to find time in the winter months for hunting as well. He likes to hang out with their dog Blue, too!
We at Vision Design Build Remodel ‘Welcome Home’ Eric Mitchell to the team! Look for him on the job site!
