Cody Byrd: 2016 NCHBA Region 9 Vice President

NCHBA Officer InducteesRecently, I was installed as the 2016 Region 9 Vice President (RVP) for the North Carolina Home Builders Association (NCHBA). It is an honor to have been selected by such an amazing organization to serve on their executive team. As RVP,  I am the official representative of the NCHBA in my region, Region 9. This consists of Caldwell, Burke, Watauga, Avery, Yancey, Mitchell, McDowell, Cleveland, Polk, and Rutherford Counties. We have several local home builders associations represented in those counties and I represent them on the state executive committee.

My responsibilities and goals as RVP

It is my job to attend the local HBA meetings and communicate what the state association has been doing. I want to make sure the members of each local association knows that the NCHBA is working for them nonstop. It is important to be up-to-date on all the current issues and affairs of the industry. My duties also include relaying the needs and concerns of what is happening on the local level and making sure their issues go to the right people in the state association. I will also install new officers for each local association and present plaques for educational accomplishments.

One of my first events as RVP was a Regional Training Forum for Region 9 at Silver Creek Plantation. You can read about our time together here.

My personal goals are to boost awareness and increase membership in each local association. The Home Builders Association has been a vital piece in my toolbox for professional business development. I want to make sure the local associations are also reaching out to their local schools to promote proper vocational training. Everyone who has anything to do with the housing market should consider becoming an active member of their local HBA and reap the rewards.

What is the NCHBA?

The state association’s mission statement says it all: “NCHBA, the voice of the North Carolina home building industry, is an association of building professionals and related industries working together to provide safe and affordable housing for the people of North Carolina. We protect the American Dream of homeownership through advocacy, education and professional business development.”  This member-driven community is a part of the larger National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) federation and is vital to the housing industry. It promotes growth, professionalism, legislative representation, education, vocational training, and much more.

While working on many construction and renovation projects, I do not have time to fight the legislative battles myself. It is nice to have a strong tool like the NCHBA and NAHB to help me out. Although some of our members are also competitors, we must work together to accomplish the needs of the industry. As the Region 9 Vice President, I look forward to helping others in my industry succeed.
